Diabetes IS curable

Do you believe that diabetes is curable? Have you been told otherwise by your doctor? Common knowledge and the information we receive from most of the medical community and the media as well as drug companies is that once we have diabetes we must learn to live with it with the help of medications and/or insulin. Some helpful dietary advice is offered but it is not emphasized enough and is not as thorough as it should be. Much of the treatment is based on preventing the diabetic condition from getting worse to avoid the end-stage processes of the disease which include: kidney damage, nerve damage, and vascular damage. This type of damage to the body can manifest as kidney disease requiring dialysis, loss of sensation in the limbs leading to trauma and infection, foot ulcers and even blindness. This is serious stuff!

The truth is all of these chronic issues in diabetics can be prevented by stopping the degeneration or breakdown of the body. Amazingly, this can be done with the food you choose to put into your body. The solution is really that simple. In general, the foods that cause diabetes contain high quantities of sugars that require the body to work overtime to process. Eventually, the body can no longer keep up with the sugar assault and begins to breakdown, unable to perform normal bodily processes essential for life. Much of the weight gain we are seeing in our children is the beginning stages of the body breaking down (insulin resistance) because it can no longer process the vast quantities of sugar being put into the system. This can also be seen in adults as the “beer belly” or the weight gain that is focused in the abdominal area (the so-called apple-shape weight distribution).

What we are experiencing now is a true epidemic of obesity, with one of the root causes being the cheap, low quality foods that have become the staples of our diets. The link below is an 8 minute video showing people healing diabetes while going through an intensive program. The link is from medical doctor, Gabriel Cousen’s website and is based on his book “There is a Cure for Diabetes”. There are many ways to approach healing diabetes. This intensive, is just that, intense, but it does not need to be. You can start incorporating the suggestions as you feel comfortable, being especially vigilant about monitoring your blood sugar levels.

Work with your doctor as you implement these changes into your life. It is imperative that your blood sugar levels be monitored closely, especially if you are taking insulin. A shift in the foods you eat and your activity levels WILL alter your blood sugar in beneficial ways but it is a process and therefore you cannot just stop taking your medications. You must gradually come off of them with the help of your doctor as your body adjusts to your new ways of eating and being.
